Discovery

Brief:

EQUALS EU Hackathon is a 24 hrs hackathon. The goal of the hackathon is for groups to invent and develop an open-source tool, platform or app which enhances financial and digital literacy for women in particular. The Hackathon is held in partnership with EY, the Bloomsbury Institute and the Commonwealth Businesswomen Network.

Solution:

Break the bias of digital finance by giving the users complete ownership and transparency. Gaining trust from the users by providing them agents from historically reliable mobile operator providers.

Research

1. Data analysis

According to GSMA Consumer Survey 2021, women are less likely than men to use mobile money.

Male and female mobile money account ownership, by country
% of adult population

One of the reasons that causes this problem might be lack of trust, understanding and uptake of digital finance. According to LastCastle Analytics, one of the case studies shows that there were a lot of frauds in Bangladesh. This reduce comfort and credibility of the companies themselves.

2. Case Studies & Competitor analysis

After going through several case studies, we listed out some problems we found:

Evidence #1 Habitual processes:
67% of people in Bangladesh don't have internet awareness

Evidence #2 Cash abundant society:
Nearly 80% of Indian transactions are conducted using cash (resource)

Evidence #3 Lack of trust in institutions and systems:
'Prime minister Nodi extorted citizens'

We aimed to help customers take the first step and being there for the next.

Ideation

After doing the research, we started the ideation.

We lised the solutions we came up for the problem.

Validate

1. Wireframe

During the handoff, I created a paper wireframe to discuss with my teammates.

2. User journey & Digital wireframes

Product market strategy

According to Mckinsey, there will be $3.7 trillion increase in digital finance by 2025. This can be a huge market potential.

1. Business Model

We have categorised our business model into 3 categories. Members purchase the "Business" model can get benefit like automated tax calculator to save their time.

2. Competitive Advantages

We listed out three reason that why our app stands out:

  1. We're the only banking app that connects the users to an agent AND also calculates their VAT the end of a
    fiscal year
  2. Outperforming competitors with a customer centric approach focused
    on gaining trust
  3. The local community providing a local solution with real people at a real time

Final design & Prototype

I designed and made the prototype in Figma.

Navigation

I created a prototype of the booking agent system. This feature addresses the first barrier to digital financial literacy: lack of comfort and trust in agents.
